Marcus
Nelson
The only son of a German Jewish mother, herself the daughter of a Holocaust survivor and an East Texas Army periodontist, Marcus grew up surrounded by history, contradiction, and an endless supply of family anecdotes. It was the 1980s, and at almost every gathering someone inevitably mentioned the war, the one with the Nazis. Stories were currency, and listening became second nature.
Marcus moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting and quickly gained a firsthand understanding of the realities of the profession. After appearing in feature films and television, including The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, he found stability and creative momentum through a highly successful fifteen-year career in commercials. That period provided both financial grounding and an education in the mechanics of visual storytelling. He later transitioned behind the camera, directing and producing advertising work with a particular focus on music driven storytelling. Whether working at a dinner table, on a soundstage, or on the page, the focus remained consistent: character, rhythm, and emotional truth.
Writing became a natural evolution.
Drawing from formative family history, the complexities of adult life, and the lived experience of fatherhood, Marcus found his voice as a screenwriter. Projects such as GRRR and ADLON emerged from that clarity, reflecting a commitment to character-driven narratives grounded in authenticity and moral consequence.
Marcus approaches visual storytelling with a long term perspective, valuing collaboration, discipline, and creative integrity. His work is guided by the belief that stories endure when they are both emotionally resonant, rigorously constructed and honest.
Marcus Nelson is a born storyteller.
